      Ya. My first design was like that. But inside the actuator is a threaded nylon plastic fitting that pulled apart. The Push and pull specs are the same for the actuator, but in my (one time) experience, using it in pull mode made the actuator come apart. Push mode seems reliable over many uses.

    • @Baxsie
      @Baxsie 3 месяца назад

      I have spliced many wires over the years. The HID output is a high voltage (maybe 80v? maybe higher like 25,000v to start certainly beyond the rating of simple heat shrink), plus Toyota went to a lot of effort to shield the wire with an external metal braid. For these reasons, I chose not to cut and splice the wire. That I why I made the video. Peace.

    I've watched several vids on these drills and it seems like no-one knows how to drill a hole properly! I was taught to pump the drill in order to break and clear the chips. This also helps keep the drill and workpiece cool plus allows coolant to flow into the hole. Your drills will go much farther between sharpenings as well. I can still hear my mentors shouting at me across the shop "PUMP THE DRILL!"

    Hi Baxsie, I’m glad I found your videos, I’m in the same boat as you were once, or van for that matter, lol. got a suspension seat in the van and definitely not getting rid of it, I even want to add a second, anyways, I already downloaded your files of the swivel seat, massive thanks, you probably understand how trivial this design is for some people. I plan on make 2, 1 for each side and I will modify the design for the passenger seat a bit more to the middle. I can also fabricate the parking brake myself if had some better images of how it looks from some different angles. And how it’s wired and hooked up, Do you have some more pictures of this? The symptom of my bad ballast was the the headlight would go off but come back on if I turned the lights off and on. Finally went out completely. I think it's really helpful to remove the metal cover at the high voltage connector and then put it back on when you're finished threading it through. It holds the shielding to the plug but can easily be removed and put back if you're careful.

    • @Baxsie
      @Baxsie 6 месяцев назад

      I think I also had that symptom with bulbs getting old. A lot easier & cheaper to replace the bulbs -- if the problem goes away then the ballast was good. If you end up having to replace the ballast, then you also have new bulbs :-) In this 2005 Prius, I wanted to replace the headlights (horribly foggy) but the 18-year-old 2005 ballast is still going strong, so I moved the old ballast into the new headlight.

    Chevrolet and GMC trucks are quite different from each other. The bodies may be similar but the drivetrains are totally different, especially the engines.GMC made a much more heavier duty truck back then, all the way up into the 70's I believe.The later trucks I think were much more alike. What a great find and a great video!!!!I would love to see them all restored back to stock condition.

    With practice you will feel the right pressure when the teeth are cutting right. The more coolant-lube the better and go slow n steady. It bound up from the bit expanding when it gets hot.

  • @Graham9042
    @Graham9042 8 месяцев назад

    Just by eyeball, I can see a horrifying amount of runout on that first bit in the three jaw chuck. Next time apply less pressure, use a constant stream of coolant or lubricant (I prefer a constant stream of a light cutting oil) and turn down the speed all the way for such relatively large diameter bits. The combination of excess pressure, excess speed, and insufficient coolant will burn your bits out within a dozen holes.

    • @Baxsie
      @Baxsie 8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the tips! I'm glad i have the "real" bit for precise holes. I'll have to invest in some cutting + cooling fluid. The main job I bought it for is cutting worn out welded bushings in a loader. I did some with a hand drill. It was brutal. Peace.

      So toyota must expect the entire headlight to be purchased which should include all of the bulbs, etc. My symptoms were flickering and then the main light would just go out. Turning the lights off and back on would restore the light for a period of time. I swapped the HID bulb to the passenger side, but the problem remained on the driver side. I ordered new bulbs and a ballast. I am really hoping this fixes the issue!

      In theory, the ballast would last the lifetime of the car --so I guess they did not think of it being replaceable. But I think 2006 and 2007 had some bad batch of ballasts that died on a regular basis. I think after, that they switched to halogens. My sister-in-law bought like a 2007 and they ended up selling after several headlight failures. I was always ready for my ballast to die in te 2005, but 18 years later I'm moving it to a new headlight instead. I agree with you - this is a knucklebuster.
